Substrate Preparation
Essential steps before applying NovoSil Silicate Mineral Paint
- Surface must be dry, clean and mineral. Free from dust, oil, grease and loose particles.
- Remove efflorescence, salts, mould and any old non-mineral/organic paint completely.
- Repair cracks and surface defects.
- New cement plaster should be cured adequately before application.
- Highly absorbent surfaces may require suitable silicate primer.
Application Temperature: 5–30°C
Avoid direct sunlight during application and curing. Do not apply during rain or excessive humidity.
Application Guidelines
Step-by-step guide for applying NovoSil Silicate Mineral Coating
- Stir paint thoroughly before use.
- Apply first coat uniformly using brush, roller or airless spray.
- Brush application promotes silicification and penetration.
- Apply two coats: First coat diluted 10–30% depending on absorptivity of surface, second coat with neat paint or lightly thinned.
- Drying time: touch dry after 1 to 2 hours. Recoat after 12 to 24 hours depending on temperature, humidity and ventilation.
- Full Cure/Silicification: 7 to 28 days for full chemical bonding. Depends on temperature, humidity and substrate.
- Application temperature 5 to 30 °C, avoid direct sunlight during application and curing.
- Avoid application during rain or excessive humidity.

NovoSil is compatible with cement plaster, lime plaster, brick masonry, concrete, mineral renders and geopolymer substrates. Natural stone surfaces may be used after a compatibility check. It should not be applied over existing non-mineral or organic paints without proper surface preparation.
NovoSil is touch dry in 30–60 minutes and can be recoated after 4–6 hours. Full silicification (chemical curing) takes 7 to 28 days depending on temperature, humidity and substrate. During this period, protect the surface from heavy rain and direct wetting.
